But the tragic murder of Clay’s older brother, coupled with his own stalled career, suddenly lures them to San Francisco and into the clutches of the Willing political dynasty.
Clay’s parents welcome Claire with open arms and ensconce her in their exclusive private club atop Nob Hill, where she mingles with the eccentric Bay Area elite and struggles to maintain her identity in the all-controlling Willing clan.
But her in-laws are the least of Claire’s worries as she unravels the freakish mystery of their son’s assassination and uncovers the shocking reason they were brought back into the fold. With no way out alive.

Reading this book late at night prevented me from sleeping. It's a real "page-turner." In Chapter 12 where the wife comes clean to her husband about what she thinks is really going on, the dialogue between the two is superb and made me laugh. However, I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5 because I'm not clear on who is in the park with Jack at the end. Also, the editing choice of putting two characters' comments into one sentence slowed the reading down at times, as I had to figure out who said what to whom. However, the general theme of the story was incredibly brave and very interesting. The author's take on real world issues was the best facet of the book. It's mind boggling that the author could weave all these issues together into a suspenseful story. Great reading! I look forward to reading more books from this author.Product details

The Union Club Don Winston 9780615955391 Books Reviews
From the first page to the last, this book is a great read. There are twists and turns you don't see coming -- and at one point, the author really gets you. I don't want to spoil it for anyone - just trust me. I'm a hard sell. I didn't want it to end. And it didn't end the way I thought it would, either. Surprise! If I were Siskel and Ebert, I'd give it two thumbs up.
Don Winston does it again...and even better than the first time!! Although I loved S'wanee! The Union Club is another page turning thriller that leaves you gasping and wanting more. His characters are wickedly and strangely interesting...you really want to get to know them...or do you? ;) I love Claire's journey into her new life, with so much wealth, promise and dark secrets! You are left guessing, wondering and then wide eyed with terrorizing surprise! An absolute must read, by an incredibly talented writer.
Once again, I can't wait for his next book...it's so worth the lack of sleep!!!!
With his second book Don Winston is proving to be a master of the thriller genre. A gripping read and a brilliant look at conspiracy theories like "The Trilateral Commission". I absolutely could not put it down. Has sparkling dialogue and a few laugh out loud moments ,but, it is the suspenseful story that knocks you out. Read!!!!
The Union Club is a great read. The characters have as many dimensions as the plot. Don Winston is a master at entwining the internal world of the character with the external happenings that move the plot. The story made me think and wonder and worry a bit too. From one scene to the next each twist and turn leads to another surprising advancement in the tale. Highly recommend.
I have been waiting for The Union Club since the day I finished reading S’wanee. Don Winston is a master storyteller and manages to draw readers inside his novels in a way that leaves a feeling of breathlessness.
Clay and Claire are staying at the prominent Union Club where everything appears to be perfect. Soon, however, Claire begins to uncover secrets that reveal nothing is as it seems. She then begins a harrowing journey into the underworld of the truth of San Francisco’s most wealthy and respected society. The final paragraph left me awaiting the next novel.
I liked this book a lot. It was crazy and creepy!
I loved "S'wanee"!! So I quickly grabbed "The Union Club" and was instantly hooked!! When I thought I had the ending all figured out, Don Winston threw curveball after curveball! Brilliant! What a ride! Couldn't put this book down...and didn't want the story to end! With such an amazing attention to detail, I felt I was the character "Claire"! Bring on Don's Book #3!! (The Gristmill Playhouse)
