I read reviews about Say Her Name on Goodreads and most people were a bit freaked out about it, but I didn't get it. I actually didn't feel anything while reading this book. I was very interested in what happened next, though. The writing and timing of events were well organized. I didn't like the wording and I felt the characters were a bit immature, but what else can I expect from YA? I'm not saying all YA literature is juvenile. I can only account for this book and future YA books I read.A striking element to this novel is the author is male and he developed his female characters perfectly! I was so taken by how he was able to write about girly things... develop characters with girly humor and language. He's quite a talented author in that respect. I haven't stumbled upon many male authors who write novels with female lead characters and for it to be believable. Very interesting!

Say Her Name Juno Dawson 9781471402449 Books Reviews
Say Her Name is the story of Bloody Mary, or better yet what happens when you call her. In the boarding school were Bobbie and Naya go to, the legend of Bloody Mary comes to life when, in a Halloween dare, they decide to say her name, along with a local boy. What follows is pure mayhem as they realize that Bloody Mary is actually a real ghost that will come for their lives after five days. In the mean time they all experience parts of Mary's lives. Seeing glimpses of her life, Bobbie decides that Mary is a ghost that wants her side of the story heard and probably her very own killer punished. So Bobbie and the other two embark on a mystery solving journey to figure out what happened to Mary and who killed her. All the while trying to avoid the ghost that wants to claim their lives.
I loved this book. It had pretty much everything I love in good horror stories. A terrifying ghost, with a mysterious past, funny moments, and a lot of running around to save your life, and a dash of romance in the mix. I really enjoyed putting all the pieces of Mary's past together.
As I've said before for me horror books don't need to have great characters or character development, if the horror part itself is good. So don't expect any memorable characters in this one, but do expect a fear of mirrors and any reflective surface.
What I loved
The story of Bloody Mary is original and so vivid. As you read it you get the feeling you'll be hunted by her by just reading the book.
The writing style is amazing. I'm usually very skeptic about starting books by new authors (to me) because I'm not sure I'll love their writing style. From the moment I started reading this book until past half way through, I felt as I was inside a movie and the writing style just kept me inside. It's so smooth and immersive.
I love the characters. How every character in this book had a good part in it, even if they weren't the protagonist.
There's a mentioning of a character loving CSI Miami and the Bloody Mary episode on Supernatural (my all-time favorite TV shows along with The Big Bang Theory and PLL), the last which got me thinking that maybe the episode is behind this book (although they have completely different story lines and yet certain similarities…no spoilers).
The ending!!! I kind of expected a certain twist but then I shrug it off telling myself not every book I read has to have a twist at the end. This one however… I wish there was a sequel and at the same time I'm glad there isn't, it leaves freedom to our imagination.
What I disliked
After getting 50% into the story, the story got a little bit dull. But it could be just me since that was the part where Bobbie and Caine were starting to really get along. To me that wasn't the problem, the problem was that the story wasn't as strong and as it was before (scary and mysterious).
Totally recommended!
a great horror story!
this book has plot twists at every corner. I read it in a day and a bit , I was that interested
I'd been wanting to read this for a while after seeing a review for it on book tube. It was creepy and fun to read while staying in Massachusetts. It wasn't quite the story I was hoping for, but it was definitely creative without a doubt. I'd read it again around Halloween time again for sure.
